Bell Museum of Natural History
2006 Minneapolis, MN

The Bell Museum of Natural History was established in 1872 as Minnesota's State Natural History Museum. With its "Touch and See Room," the Bell Museum offered its visitors a high-quality hands-on natural history experience that was among the first of its kind in the world. As a department of the University of Minnesota, the museum boasts a four-million specimen collection and enjoys the research efforts of more than 400 faculty members and graduate assistants. Because of its connection to ongoing cutting-edge research, the museum is in an admirable position to connect its visitors with the process of scientific discovery.

After sixty years in its current location on the University's Minneapolis campus, the museum has acquired a new 9-acre site on the St. Paul campus. Andrew Merriell & Associates has been engaged to work with the museum staff on a schematic design for all of the new building's exhibitions and media productions. Two of the principal goals of the project are first, to invite museum visitors into the world of natural history research, and second, to show connections between science and art.
