1973-1979 Boston, Massachusetts

From 1973 to 1979 Andrew Merriell was employed by the Boston Children's Museum as the head of its in-house exhibition design department. During that period the museum moved from a suburban Boston location to a renovated wool storage warehouse on the city's downtown waterfront. With this move the museum's exhibit galleries tripled in size.

Andy not only managed all of the design effort for this move, but also served as project designer for several exhibitions, including "Playspace," "What If You Couldn't…," "Factory," "Giant's Desktop," "Living Things," and "WKID." He also participated in the planning and design of the museum's signature "City Slice" exhibition.

At the Children's Museum Andy worked with innovators like Michael Spock, Elaine Gurian, and Janet Kamien, who pioneered the field of experiential museum exhibitions.
